Former Lake City standout
Baker to join Griz staff
Katie Baker, who played four years for the Montana women’s basketball team after her playing career at Lake City High, has joined the staff at Montana as the program’s director of basketball administration under first-year coach Shannon Schweyen.
Baker’s duties will focus on arranging team travel, summer camp organization, fundraising and social media presence.
Baker was an assistant coach at Division II Colorado-Colorado Springs in 2014-15 and was a graduate assistant at Wisconsin for the 2015-16 season.
Baker was a three-time All-Big Sky Conference selection, capping her senior year by earning Big Sky MVP honors in 2013, when she led Montana to the Big Sky regular season championship and the program’s 20th NCAA tournament appearance. She is fifth in scoring in program history with 1,427 points, sixth in blocks and 10th in rebounds.
Baker continued her playing career by playing professionally in Luxembourg in 2013-14.
WSU adds Chidom to
hoops recruiting haul
PULLMAN — Arinze Chidom, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward from Sunrise Christian Academy Prep in Bel Aire, Kan., has signed an athletic aid agreement and will join the Washington State men’s basketball team beginning this season, coach Ernie Kent announced Thursday.
Chidom spent one year at Sunrise Christian after graduating from Bishop O’Dowd High in Oakland in 2015. At Sunrise, Chidom averaged 12 points, five rebounds and three steals a game. As a senior at Bishop O’Dowd, Chidom averaged 10 points, six rebounds and two steals as his team won the California open division championship in 2015. His older sister, Oderah, is a senior on the women’s basketball team at Duke.
“I like his length, athleticism, and most importantly, his skill set,” Kent said.
Chidom joins the incoming class that includes Keith Langston, Jamar Ergas, Malachi Flynn, Milan Acquaah and Jeff Pollard, who had previously signed a national letter of intent or financial aid agreement with the Cougars.
