ELK RIVER — A 44-year-old Coeur d'Alene man was injured early Thursday when he swerved to miss an elk on Highway 8 in Clearwater County.

According to Idaho State Police, Jeffrey M. Marsan was eastbound in a 1998 Western Star semi with an empty trailer at 1:56 a.m. near milepost 51 when the vehicle left the roadway after he swerved to miss an elk.

The semi struck a culvert, became airborne and hit a tree, according to ISP.

Marsan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Kootenai Health, where he was treated and released.
