Randles resigns as Sandpoint wrestling coach

to take assistant principal job at Coeur d’Alene

After a successful career that includes a top line résumé of three state championships, longtime Sandpoint wrestling coach and teacher Mike Randles is stepping down, after accepting the job of assistant principal at Coeur d’Alene High School on Monday.

Randles won state 4A titles in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and was an assistant coach for another three state titles under his predecessor, Dan Taylor in 1994, 1995 and 1996. He coached for 17 seasons and taught school for 19 years, and when the opportunity came along for the promotion, he threw his hat in the ring.

“It really kind of came out of nowhere,” said Randles of the opportunity. “It was a really tough decision.”

Several of his wrestlers over the years, including Jake and Jared Rosholt (both Oklahoma State), Chris (Portland State) and Luke (Stanford) Feist, Jared and Brett Lawrence (both Minnesota) and Tony Hook (Oregon State), went on to have stellar college wrestling careers, including a handful of national championships and All-American honors.
