Working to reduce roadway deaths

| August 10, 2016 9:00 PM

In an effort to reduce the number of deaths on Idaho roadways, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office is continuing to partner with the Idaho Transportation Department Office of Highway Safety with traffic enforcement campaigns.

This summer, the sheriff's office participated in an Impaired Driving Campaign — focused on drivers impaired by alcohol and/or drugs — from June 24 to July 6. It also participated in the statewide "100 to Zero" traffic emphasis from July 8 to July 18, with a focus on impaired, aggressive and distracted driving.

The sheriff’s office will be participating in two more statewide traffic mobilizations as the summer comes to a close.

The first '100 to Zero,' starts Friday and will run from Aug. 12-22. The goal of this mobilization is to reduce the number of fatal crashes that occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The second, Impaired Driving Mobilization, runs Aug. 26 – Sept. 5. This mobilization will put additional deputies on the roadway with their sole focus being to remove impaired drivers from the roadways. The majority of traffic collisions are a result of impaired, aggressive or distracted driving.
