David Barger, 71

| August 10, 2016 9:00 PM

David Barger, born Sept. 20, 1945, in New York, N.Y., went to sleep peacefully in Jesus at the Hospice House on July 16, 2016. David has a son, Richard Matthew Barger and two grandchildren, Grace and Eddie.

His parents served in the OSS (CIA) during World War II while fighting against the Japanese in the Philippines. David was raised in an orphanage full of Roman Catholic nuns; one nun was affectionately named by David as “Sister Immaculata” who was good at “discipline … a lotta.”

After high school, David studied emergency medicine and worked as an ambulance medic, often serving extra time in the emergency room at the University of St. Louis in Missouri. He later became an instructor to other students in emergency medicine while working as a physician’s assistant at the hospital.

He had been married and had a son and was later divorced. Years later he met a teacher he fell in love with and married. He called her “Miss Baba.”

He was also politically active and fought injustice wherever he saw it. He joined The Missouri 15 and served time in jail for it. As he stated, “The whole thing was a sham. The politicians in the area were corrupt and did not like me and others exposing them. They felt that they were above the law.”

Separation from his son had been painful and he longed to reconcile with him.

Though he never made much money, David shared his possessions and food with anyone in need, without strings attached.

After moving to Idaho, “the playground of the super-rich,” David began attending city council meetings, again working to fight against political corruption. He was arrested by the Coeur d’Alene police and there were those who worked to free him.

David liked to listen to talk radio and often called in as “Bill from Idaho” and was very articulate. He was a regular guest of Henry Shively’s FromtheTrenches WorldReport.com.

Most who knew him well would no doubt say his greatest witness was his desire to help others in need and Christian example.

David’s favorite verse was:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

David was a member of the Post Falls SDA Church, a patriot and a true gentleman. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The memorial service for David will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016. A prepared lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Post Falls SDA Church, E. 3297 Poleline Road, Post Falls, Idaho.
