A Washington brush fire burned across the Idaho border Monday scorching 19.1 acres before fire crews brought it under control.

The fire, reported around 11:45 a.m. in Spokane Valley near the corner of Idaho Road and Trent Avenue, was started by sparks from a swather operated by a farmer.

Spokane Valley Fire Department crews worked closely with crews from Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, Hauser Lake Fire Protection District, Newman Lake Fire and Rescue and Department of Natural Resources to battle the blaze. Their efforts were hampered by windy conditions and heavy smoke.

Firefighters were able to secure a wet line around the blaze about 12:45 p.m.

Two local farmers turned on large pivot sprinklers to aid the firefighting efforts. A total of 18 fire apparatus and support vehicles responded to this incident. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. No structures were damaged or lost in the fire.
