Bike & Build rolling into Cd'A
A group of young adults is bicycling into Coeur d’ Alene Wednesday on a journey across the United States. The riders will be staying at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where church members will provide meals, showers, and shelter.
The riders, with Bike & Build — a national nonprofit committed to supporting affordable housing — will be working on a Habitat new construction home at 511 E. 15th Ave. and a home preservation re-roof at 2302 W. Lady Anne Way, both in Post Falls. The cyclists began their 4,000-mile journey in Providence, R.I., and will end in Seattle, building all along the way.
The riders are hosting a ‘Stories of the Road” community forum Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church, 501 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene. They will share experiences and information on how to become involved. This is free to the public, refreshments will be served.
Based in Philadelphia, Bike & Build is a nonprofit that encourages young adults to address the country’s affordable housing crisis through organized bicycle trips. Trip participants support the affordable housing cause by fundraising and building efforts. Since its founding in 2003, Bike & Build has motivated over 2,000 young adult volunteers and contributed over $4.5 million and 160,000 volunteer hours to housing groups such as Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together to fund projects in the United States.
