The North Idaho Xtreme 16-and-under softball team finished tied for ninth place at the Premier Girls National Championship tournament in Huntington Beach, Calif., losing 9-1 to Iowa Premier on Thursday.
Jalyssa Beamer, Bri Barlow and Olivia Zufelt each had a hit for the Xtreme.
“Overall, it was a great weel of softball for our team,” Xtreme coach Mike Chapman said. “We got to play against some of the best teams in the country in front of numerous college colleges. It is an experience that will make our players better moving forward.”
The Xtreme remained in the consolation bracket with an 8-2 win over the White Sox Academy of Chicago late Wednesday. Bri Barlow had two hits and Shelby Strr and Olivia Zufelt each had two-run singles. Amanda Curry earned the complete game win.
The Xtreme lost to the California Explosion 6-0 earlier on Wednesday. Hannah Brock and Ashlynn Allen each had a hit in the loss.
“Explosion is one of the top programs in Southern California and we did not play our best against them,” Chapman said. “I’m happy with the way we responded against a good team from Chicago. We were much more aggressive at the plate and it showed in the result.”
