Scott William Shearer, 50

| August 4, 2016 10:14 AM

Scott William Shearer, 50, of Bozeman, Mont., passed away at his home on July 25, 2016. He was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, graduating high school in 1983.

Scott worked in many service related businesses including Kinney Shoes, his sister Cindy’s jewelry business, as well as the custom curbing business he shared with his wife, Linda. Scott’s super power was his people skills; he was charming, funny and had a fantastic memory. He could tell stories that would bring one to tears, either by sheer hilarity or through poignant pain.

Scott knew pain. He was adored by his mother, Patricia (Gamble) Shearer and never really came to terms with her death in 2005. As he ultimately died of heart disease, it is easy to make the correlation that he died of a broken heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Shearer (2001). Like his father, Scott was very organized, talented with his hands, and could still build Lego creations that required hundreds of pieces and hours of work.

Scott enjoyed backpacking, designing and setting up aquariums. He loved animals of all kinds. His greatest joy in life was his marriage to Linda Smith in 2002. They could be found with their assorted pets hiking up Hyalite, road tripping across the country or finding peace in the solitude of the ocean. After discovering the Oregon Coast, they moved to be closer to the ocean as it became such a special place to them.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith Shearer; along with her two daughters, Jessica Pelton (her daughter, Dakota) and Leah Weaver (her son, Stylz). He is also survived by his sister, Cindy Shearer of Bozeman; and a grandfather, James Westerberg of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Donations may be made in Scott’s name to Tiny Tails K-9 Rescue, P.O. Box 257, Manhattan, MT 59741, or to a charity of your choice.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
