Volunteers help prep fairgrounds for North Idaho State Fair

| August 3, 2016 9:00 PM

Volunteers of all ages came together Saturday to join North Idaho State Fair staff in readying the Kootenai County Fairgrounds in preparation of the upcoming North Idaho State Fair.

As part of Summer Service Day, nearly 150 community members rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time as they painted, cleaned, assembled animal pens, and completed other projects throughout the fairgrounds.

Modeled after the old-fashioned "barn raising," the annual event brings together a wide range of volunteers from Coeur d’Alene and surrounding areas, and emphasizes both the fun and community spirit of the fairgrounds.

In addition to the work completed by the volunteers, the day included a barbecue celebration, a visit with Bucky the fair mascot, and carnival games.

“Summer Service Day is truly special and important to us,” said Dane Dugan, fair general manager, in a press release.

“Today kicks off the countdown to the fair, and seeing the youngest 4-H members working alongside our volunteers who have given their time for many years emphasizes how honored we are to be a part of such a great community.”

The 2016 fair, “A World of Fun!” runs Aug. 24-28, and will showcase entertainment and attractions from 11 different countries.

The fair is also the host of the Gem State Stampede — three evenings and one matinee performance of PRCA rodeo action. For information, visit www.northidahostatefair.com.
