ASA SOFTBALL: Zufelt sends Xtreme to pair of wins at PGF national tourney
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Olivia Zufelt hit a sacrifice fly to score Bri Barlow with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, capping the North Idaho Xtreme’s rally to beat the Ohio Outlaws 6-5 in the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship on Tuesday afternoon.
Ashlynn Allen had three RBIs and Sierra Apodaca had an RBI single for the Xtreme, who got a complete game win from Ashley Kaufman.
In the second game, Zufelt drove in Barlow in the sixth inning as the Xtreme beat the California Phenom 1-0. Amanda Curry pitched a complete game shutout in the win.
“Our pitching and defense were solid today,” Xtreme coach Mike Chapman said. “We played two top level teams and came away with two victories. If we can get our bats going like they normally are, then we should be able to compete with any team in this tournament.”
The Xtreme return to action today against the California Explosion at 12:30 p.m.
