Panhandle Symphony offers free concert Tuesday

| April 29, 2016 9:00 PM

The Spring Concert for the Panhandle Symphony Orchestra will be held Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Ramsey and Golf Course Road.

“Orchestra Director Tim Sandford, has prepared a variety of music to fit the taste of anyone attending,” said event organizers. “English Folk Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams will open the selections followed by “Corral Nocturne” by Aaron Copland. To demonstrate the musicians’ abilities and to provide variety to the program, they will perform the St. Louis Blues — a jazz piece by Handy. The audience will recall tunes that represent some cities such as New Orleans and Chicago in the tune Cityscapes. Sandford has rounded the program with three movements from Bizet’s, L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2.

Major sponsors for this performance will be the Jeanne Holmberg Memorial Charitable Trust, Don and Sue Sausser and Jackie and Bill Nordling. The Salvation Army Kroc Center has contributed a scholarship to assist in this production. These and other contributions at the door allow the symphony to perform the concert free of charge.
