Donating the gift of life. BioLife Plasma Services collects blood and plasma that are used in critical treatments.

Every three weeks Celina needs a potentially life saving plasma infusion.

Without the treatment, her life could be in jeopardy. She has a primary immunodeficiency disorder, which weakens the immune system, allowing infections and other health problems to occur more easily. She was born missing some of the body's immune defenses, which leaves her more susceptible to germs that can cause infections.

“Plasma-derived therapies have allowed me to live a normal, but most importantly, healthy life,” said Celina. “Due to the infusions, I have been healthy enough to enjoy my life to the fullest by drawing, playing sports, working hard in school, traveling, and being with my friends and family.”

In order to manufacture those treatments, physicians need a large supply of plasma.

Plasma is the pale yellow liquid portion of your blood that can be easily replaced by the body. It consists mainly of water and proteins, which help your body control bleeding and infection.

The plasma collected at BioLife Plasma Services is processed into life-saving therapeutics that benefit thousands of people daily. Plasma-based therapeutics are used in the treatment of serious disorders, such as hemophilia and immune system deficiencies, and to treat victims of shock and burns. It is important to remember that plasma is not a substance that can be produced in a laboratory or some other artificial environment. It can only be obtained from healthy adults.

Donating plasma is a low-risk procedure with minimal or no side effects. BioLife offers compensation to all donors, and extra compensation for first time donors. Currently, new donors can receive up to $250 in just 5 donations! The BioLife facility offers wifi, free supervised playroom, and online appointment scheduling.

"I never have been a big fan of needles, but I've looked beyond that,” said Bryan, who is a regular donor. “It makes me feel good that I am helping save someone's life, but also it helps me make some extra money on the side. I donate twice a week, but I always look forward to it.”

BioLife plasma donors spend up to an hour, as often as twice a week, in our centers to help save someone's life or improve the quality of it.

BioLife Plasma Services is licensed and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA),and it must comply with strict regulations to ensure product quality and the safety of both donors and of patients receiving life-saving plasma products.

The Hayden center screens all of its donors carefully. Donors must be at least 18-years-old and be in good general health. Before a donor is accepted into the BioLife Plasma Services donor program, he or she must pass a medical examination.

During each subsequent visit, the donor's vital signs are checked by staff. In addition, the donor's hematocrit (the percentage of blood volume occupied by red blood cells) and plasma protein levels are checked. Each donation procedure uses sterile and disposable collection materials. Once the donation is complete, the disposable equipment is discarded and replaced with new materials for the next donation. These steps help ensure the safety of the donor and protect the recipients of the therapies processed from their plasma.
