Credit where credit's due, Part II

| April 27, 2016 10:00 PM

A few years back when Luke Thoreson was playing basketball on the state championship Post Falls Trojan team, Bert and I would often have people assume he was our grandson. Luke is a stellar young man, who’s now in his senior year at Williams College in Massachusetts. We share the same uncommon last name but no genetics.

On Friday night backstage at the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre Dancing with the Celebrities event, two young ballerinas waited to perform as special entertainment. Kiana and Sara Thoreson are Luke’s sisters and no relation to me and Bert. But after seeing the extraordinary talent, beauty and artistry of their dance, I’m wishing some of that would have rubbed off on me before I took my turn on stage doing a waltz! So again, credit where credit’s due: their parents, Nate and Barb Thoreson. No relation. :)

Facebook Post of the Week: Mayor Steve Widmyer — “Marie and I are training to walk the Coeur d Alene Marathon. So far our training consists of walking two miles to the coffee shop, having a coffee and walking home. My math tells me we are going to need 13 coffee shops on the marathon course or we may not make it!”

Pastor Tim Remington will be feeling the love from several hundred people on Sunday evening when Good Samaritan Rehabilitation holds a dinner, silent and live auction at The Coeur d’Alene Resort. When Remington was shot on March 6 as he walked to his car following services at The Altar Church, the community was stunned. He survived and is recovering in what can only be described as a miracle. Pastor Remington still has a long road ahead and the proceeds from the Sunday benefit will ease the financial burden on the family.

Tickets are $30 can be bought at The Coeur d'Alene Resort 765-4000 ext. 21.
