Amelia Ann Dunphy, 83

Amelia Ann Dunphy passed away peacefully from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease at her home in Rathdrum, Idaho on April 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and phenomenal caretakers.

Amelia was born May 13, 1932 in Trenton, New Jersey. She married her loving husband, James Richard on October 20, 1951.

Amelia was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James; parents, Walter and Mary Berger, her sister Rita Wilson and brothers Vince Berger and Walter Berger.

She is survived by sons Thaddeus (Irene) of Rathdrum, Idaho; Edward of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Michael (Heidi) of Monroe, Oregon; Christopher (Nicole) of Everett, Washington, Francis of Billings, Montana, and daughter Sister Mary Tarcisius of Lafayette, Louisiana. Also, her brothers Edward of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and Lawrence of Trenton, New Jersey and sister, Marie Groffie of Trenton, New Jersey.

Prior to moving the family to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1966, they lived in San Diego California, Los Altos Hills, California, Boise, Idaho and Kirkland, Washington.

Amelia raised six children, instilling in them a love of their Faith, and a strong work ethic. She had six children, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Amelia loved her Catholic Faith; holding to the Traditional practices and not the modern changes introduced at Vatican Two. She and her husband, James had a rock grotto built on their property in Rathdrum, Idaho to honor Our Lady of Lourdes, and would spend hours there watching the birds frolic in the waterfall and praying the Rosary.

Amelia was a master seamstress, designing and sewing clothes for herself, friends and family. She did custom design and alterations for Nordstrom in Bellevue, Washington as well as making the church altar linens and vestments worn by the priests at Mass and Sacred Liturgies.

Everyone enjoyed her cooking, she being known for her freshly ground flour homemade bread, clam chowder and baked treats. She also would take the time to hand grind round steak into hamburger so it would be as fresh as possible. She attended to her garden every Summer and would can various sorts of vegetables for use during the year.

Amelia was laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery on April 21, 2016 and a Traditional Catholic Requiem Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Mary Immaculate Queen Church in Rathdrum, Idaho.
