PREP SOFTBALL: Lake City sweeps Lewiston, faces unbeaten Coeur d'Alene next
LEWISTON — Michaela Flerchinger and Ashley Kaufman combined on a one-hitter in the opener as the Lake City Timberwolves swept the Lewiston Bengals 10-0 and 16-5 in 5A Inland Empire League play Saturday at Airport Park.
Heather Hawkes went 4 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs in the first game for Lake City (13-2, 6-0 5A IEL), which broke a scoreless tie with eight runs in the top of the fourth inning. Kim Cook was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
In the second game, Haley Loffer went 5 for 5 and scored four runs for the Timberwolves. Reilly Williams homered and finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs, Hawkes was 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs, and Reilley Chapman went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
“Great team effort to get two wins down in Lewiston,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “Michaela Flerchinger threw the ball very well and gave up no hits through four, and Ashley came in and closed the door for the shutout. Heather Hawkes, Haley Loffer and Kim Cook had great days at the plate. We are looking forward to the opportunity to play Coeur d’Alene for the first time this season on Tuesday.”
Lake City plays host to Coeur d’Alene (13-0, 6-0) in a doubleheader Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
Lewiston dipped to 6-8, 0-6.

“Those home runs were very timely hits,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “Their pitcher is really good and she’s the real deal. We had to scrap around and got the two big blasts. Burke was masterful today and they’re not used to that kind of treatment over there.”

Bonners Ferry 4-4
Timberlake 0-3
BONNERS FERRY — Kadi Bateman struck out 12 in the opener, and a wind-blown fly ball led to the winning run in the second as the host Badgers, last year’s 3A District 1 champions, swept the Tigers in Intermountain League play.
With the second game tied at 3 and two out in the bottom of the sixth inning, an apparent routine fly to center field by Gabby Blackmore was blown back toward the infield, dropping in safely for a single and scoring Trinity Golder from second base with the go-ahead run.
“It was pretty windy up there,” Timberlake coach Casi Reisenauer said. “It was an unlucky day to say the least. We definitely didn’t hit like we have been hitting, but then it was the fourth and fifth games we’ve played this week. I think my kids were tired; my pitchers did great for how much they’ve thrown the last couple of days.”
Bonners Ferry leads the IML at 5-0.
Matraca Rocheleau doubled and scored on an error to put Timberlake (7-4, 3-2) up 3-2 in the fourth inning of the second game.
The Tigers were blanked in the opener despite outhitting the Badgers 7-3.
“She (Bateman) threw a lot of pitches up in the zone, and we had a hard time making those adjustments,” Reisenauer said.
One of the Badgers’ hits was a biggie — Kassy Skeen’s three-run triple in the second inning.
On Tuesday, Bonners Ferry visits Priest River and Timberlake travels to Kellogg.
