Canfield celebrates Poetry Month

| April 23, 2016 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE — Students at Canfield Middle School in Coeur d'Alene channeled their inner Bard to celebrate National Poetry Month.

More than 80 poems were crafted and submitted by students and staff at the school. Those poems were then displayed, anonymously, in the hallways of the school throughout the month to be read and enjoyed by the school community.

Six middle schoolers earned enough votes from staff and students to be given "People's Choice Awards." Recipients of the award were Abby Green, Trinity Kelso, Rylee Giddings, Morgan Dixon and Ryleigh Woodman.

National Poetry Month was established by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of the craft throughout the country. For more information, visit www.poets.org.

The Community Library Network at Post Falls will close at 2 p.m. Saturday in preparation of author C. J. Box’s free presentation at 3 p.m. Box will also appear at the Hayden Library at 6:30 p.m., but the library will remain open until 5 p.m.
