COEUR d’ALENE — Teams from four rival schools, the Lakeland/Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene/Lake City teams, had to play with each other and took on each other.

When it was all said and done on Wednesday at the Kootenai County Challenge at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, the Lakeland/Post Falls boys team and Coeur d’Alene/Lake City girls squad came away winners in the Ryder Cup format. But win or lose, a lot of players walked away pretty happy.

“It was fun,” Lakeland assistant coach Darrell Hull said. “This was a different format than anything they’ve ever played. They combined with the teams. They were rooting each other on with teams they’d never played with. You put them in this format, it was one of the most fun they’ve had playing golf.”

The teams all played each other under Ryder Cup formats, with one point after six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble, six holes of alternate shot, and the total score.

Coeur d’Alene’s girls play Friday at the Big East Invitational at Wandermere Golf Course and its boys team, Post Falls, Lakeland and Lake City play Monday at the Krause Invitational at Hayden Lake Country Club.
