GARBAGE: Low bid should win

| April 20, 2016 9:00 PM

I wanted to take a minute to comment on the contract for the garbage removal in the city. There were three bids and I assume each of the bidders was smart enough to read the requirements and scope of work required to bid. Once the bids were in and checked by the finance department, the contract was given to the lowest bidder. That is generally the way it works. If all specifications were followed in the bid process and the lowest bidder met that requirement, the lowest bidder gets the bid. I have built many houses in Kootenai County and I always worked on that premise.

Now we have other bidders yelling about the way the bid process was ambiguous. Shades of Donald Trump I believe about the Republican convention process.

If Coeur d’Alene Garbage signs the contract as they have a right to sign, then they will need additional trucks and drivers and the best place to look is to the last contract holder and hire their drivers if they are actually laid off and if they qualify. They have experience and know the routes.

Oh! By the way, the citizens of Coeur d’Alene will prosper and hopefully can see lower taxes which they deserve. Coeur d’Alene, please follow your own rules and do not allow the bid losers a chance to raise our taxes.
