| April 17, 2016 9:15 PM

POST FALLS — Nathaniel English had three hits and two RBIs in the first game for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings, who beat the Post Falls Trojans 6-2 in the first game of an 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Saturday at Post Falls High.

Coeur d’Alene’s Jackson Sumner struck out seven in the second game, a 5-2 win in the first league games for both schools this season.

“It really came down to a couple of clutch hits and some defensive plays,” Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. “We just came up a little short. Coeur d’Alene played really well defensively and made some great plays when we had runners in scoring position. We just need to make some clutch hits and make a couple more plays. We just came up a little short today.”

Jake Pfennigs struck out six in the first game for Post Falls (10-4), which travels to Lake City on Tuesday.
