Pursuit, standoff end in arrest
A man was arrested in Spokane Valley Thursday night after a Coeur d'Alene traffic stop resulted in a westbound pursuit on Interstate 90.
Coeur d'Alene police stopped Scott G. Salisbury, 53, in Coeur d'Alene for an alleged lane violation. Salisbury fled from the traffic stop in his vehicle and Coeur d'Alene officers followed westbound toward Spokane.
At 10:43 p.m., Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies responded to assist Coeur d'Alene police. They took over pursuit at milepost No. 7, where Coeur d'Alene police advised deputies Salisbury may be suffering from a medical condition.
Kootenai County deputies unsuccessfully attempted to stop Salisbury. Salisbury kept driving toward the state line, staying under the posted speed limit and "appeared" to be talking to himself. When deputies attempted to slow the vehicle down, Salisbury attempted to strike the patrol vehicle. Spike-strips were deployed at milepost No. 1, where Salisbury again nearly struck a patrol car.
Kootenai County deputies discontinued the pursuit near Stateline and Washington State Patrol and the Spokane County Sheriff's Office took over. Spokane deputies used a strategic maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop near Trent and Evergreen in Spokane Valley. Salisbury was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
Charges for felony eluding and aggravated assault were forwarded to the Kootenai County prosecutor for crimes in Idaho.
