The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office released the name of a man killed early Saturday in a Rathdrum vehicle crash.

Brian L. Messerly, 37, of Rathdrum, was found deceased near the scene of the single-vehicle roll-over near East Chilco Road and North Hope Valley Road.

Deputies responded to the scene at 1:50 a.m. after receiving a citizen’s report that a vehicle in that area had rolled several times and the occupants had been ejected from the vehicle.

A boy with extensive injuries was located near the crash. Later identified as Messerley’s son, Kevin L. Messerly, 13, the boy was transported to Kootenai Health. No information was available from the hospital Tuesday regarding the boy’s condition.

According to the sheriff’s office’s initial investigation, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Chilco Road at a high rate of speed when the pickup truck left the road and rolled several times. Neither of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigation Team is continuing its investigation.
