Finley to graduate, transfer

BOISE — Following his expected graduation in May, Boise State quarterback Ryan Finley plans to transfer.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining, and be eligible immediately.

Finley opened last season as the Broncos’ starting quarterback. But the redshirt sophomore suffered a season-ending injury during the season. True freshman Brett Rypien, from Shadle Park High in Spokane, took over at quarterback, and remained the No. 1 QB the rest of the season, as well as through the recently completed spring practice.

Que Johnson granted release

from WSU men’s hoops program

PULLMAN ­— Redshirt junior Que Johnson has been granted his release from the Washington State men’s basketball program and will transfer, Cougars coach Ernie Kent announced Tuesday.

A native of Pontiac, Mich., Johnson averaged 9.0 points per game over this three-year career, having started 42 of the 93 games he appeared in. This season, Johnson shot .404 (42 for 104) from 3-point range, ranking 11th-best in the Pac-12. He ranks 16th in WSU’s career record books with 121 made 3-pointers. He is on track to graduate this spring with a social sciences degree.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

IHSAA selects three for

2016 Hall of Fame Class

The Idaho High School Activities Association selected their 2016 Hall of Fame class at last Wednesday’s Board of Directors meeting.

Dr. Richard Bauscher, currently the Middleton School District Superintendent,­ will retire in June after working in education for 39 years. He served three terms on the IHSAA Board of Directors, as a representative from District 3 and the superintendent association. He was also a founding board member of the Youth Endowment for Activities. He was instrumental in passing a school bond that built the new Middleton High School and sports complex ­which is called the Bauscher Sports Complex.

Jay Darrington retired in 2015 after serving as the Declo High athletic director for 25 years. He is a past member of the IHSAA Board of Directors as well as a past president of the IAAA Board of Directors. At Declo, he organized the fundraising and installation of the all-weather track in 1992 and the design of the new athletic facilities in 1997. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2009. Currently, he is the mayor of Declo.

David Neumann retired as the Genesee School District superintendent and volleyball coach in 2010 after an 18-year tenure in the district where he had also served as principal and athletic director. Over his career at both Genesee and Wood River, he won five state volleyball championships and was named the Idaho Volleyball Coach of the Year five times. He was also a member of the IHSAA Board of Directors for two terms.

The 2016 Hall of Fame Class will be honored on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverside Hotel in Boise.
