Shanon Sugar McGuinn, 42

April 20, 1973 — March 25, 2016

Shanon was born in St. Maries, Idaho, on Good Friday, April 20, 1973, and passed on Good Friday, March 25, 2016, in Seattle, Wash.

On the morning of March 25, 2016, our hearts were broken with a million “whys” and “what ifs” when Shanon was tragically taken from us in a motorcycle accident in Seattle.

Shanon, better known as Sugar to some, spent most of his childhood between the Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint areas, where he enjoyed life on a small ranch in the Chilco area. He attended school in Sandpoint, Lakeland and Coeur d’Alene. While he may have had what some describe as a misspent youth playing in and helping create a number of bands, it was there that he honed his craft for his first true love the bass guitar.

Shanon moved to Seattle in his early 20s to develop his talent and begin exploring the world. There he worked with many extremely talented individuals including, but not limited to, Brent Amaker and the Rodeo, Star Lake Drownings and Modern Relics, where he was able to perform with the love of his life, Sarah.

He enjoyed being silly with everyone, whether it was taking a comfortable situation and making it funny and awkward, or taking an awkward situation and making everyone comfortable. He was always looking to keep things unusual and interesting.

Shanon did many things in life, but in all things he did them with great passion. Whether it was photography, summiting Mount Rainer, bicycling around the U.S. for a band tour, motorcycles or touring the world with the band. He had a love for his family that he put before anything and everything, and an abundance of friends that were loved and loved him deeply.

Shanon was married to Sarah on Aug. 17, 2008, in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by a small group of friends and family. He had a marriage that other people dreamt of. He loved love and enjoyed being part of others happiness. He was ordained early in life and had the pleasure of joining many dear friends together.

While it is tragic for us that he has left us so early in our life, we can take some small comfort in knowing that he truly lived life to its fullest, squeezing every ounce of joy out of every occasion. He took advantage of every moment to tell you that he loved you and was well and truly loved by many. He was our joy and everyone’s favorite and in doing so has set an example for us to love and live well.

Shanon is survived by his wife, Sarah McGuinn; son Justin S. McGuinn; mother Linda Williams; father Gene (Adrien) McCain; sisters Kathie (Troy) Hoopes and Valerie Felts; and many nieces and nephews. Shanon is preceded in death by his daughter, Kayleigh Nicole McGuinn.
