GRANGEVILLE — Bryant “Bub” Asbury struck out five and allowed four hits for the St. Maries Lumberjacks in a 10-1 over the Grangeville Bulldogs to earn a Central Idaho League split in a doubleheader on Saturday at Grangeville High.

Kiefer Gibson had three hits, and five others had two each for St. Maries in the second game after losing 15-5 in the opener.

“We had a really good second game hitting the baseball up and down the lineup,” St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. “We played great defense and Bub had his best outing of the season so far.”

In the opener, St. Maries took a 5-4 lead before allowing 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth to fall 15-5.

“We just had a hard time with our pitching in that inning,” Tefft said. “We walked 11 and hit four, and when you combine that with six errors, that was our undoing. I don’t know if I’ve seen something quite like that.”

St. Maries (2-6, 1-2 CIL) hosts Kellogg on Wednesday.
