Readers keep asking, “What’s happening at Ramsey and Prairie?”

According to building permits, the eight acres in the southeast corner of that intersection will contain a 5,000-square-foot convenience store and gas station.

The name of the place hasn’t been released. One source says it will be Prairie Mini Market. Another says it will be a Jifi Stop, which would be one of several in Kootenai County owned by Kerr Family Properties. We’ll run more details when we get them.

Now for the Tidbits

- Watch for news on Movement Mortgage on Front Avenue, Benjamin Powell Galleries downtown, 777 Take-n-Bake Pizza on Best Avenue, KnitKnit downtown, The Bluebird Pub, Real Deals on Home Decor and G.I. Java Coffee House on Fourth Street and Empire Eye, Grill From Ipanema and Anthony’s Restaurant in Riverstone.

- Other new places coming include Terre Coffee & Bakery on Northwest Boulevard, Monet Floors & Home Design moving on Government Way, Panera Bread in Hayden and Cracker Barrel and Orban Family Dental near Winco.

- We hear rumors that Burger King and Jack-in-the-Box are coming to Hayden. Anyone have information?

- Evidently Granny’s Pantry off Highway 53 in Rathdrum has closed.

- Former Coeur d’Alene Press reporter Bill (William) Geroux has written a successful book, “The Mathews Men.” It’s a non-fiction World War II story about seven brothers and the war against Hitler’s U-boats. Geroux lives Back East where he has been a journalist.

- Avoid starting a sentence with “There” as it forces you into the boring “to be” verbs of “is” or “are” and wastes space. Instead of “There are eight men working here,” write “Eight men work here.”

- England has no kidney bank, but it does have a Liverpool.

- A real headline: “One-armed man applauds kindness of strangers.”

- Last week my wife Mary and I enjoyed six days in sunny Southern California with 16 relatives. The fun included Disneyland, several beaches and discovering the downtown of the City of Orange, which has a circular, fountain-centered town “square.” But most businesses don’t open until 11 a.m., when we wanted to be at the low-tide beaches. We bought kid surf toys at thrift stores and left them for the next families. Patty Duke’s death (and CdA) made the front pages of newspapers there.
