“Our defense was very solid again and did an excellent job,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “It took us a while to get the bats going, but was proud of the team for sticking with it until the very end. Overall, it was a really good team effort. Kari did a great job on the mound and Erin (Schwalbach) played great defensively at third base today.”

RATHDRUM — Jared McDaniel hit a two-run single in the fifth inning as the Hawks scored six runs in the inning to beat the Tigers at Gorton Field.

“We got off to a slow start tonight,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “We were hitting the ball, but right at guys. Then it all came together for us in the fourth inning. Everyone contributed up and down the lineup for us, which was really nice to see.”

Dylan Bradbury, Tucker Price and Andrew Neilson scored two runs each for Lakeland (4-5), which plays at Lake City today at 4 p.m.

“Andrew set the tone for us early by hitting the ball hard,” coach Bradbury said. “He had a good night at the plate and played good defense at shortstop. We took a step in the right direction tonight and played an all around good game. We still have some things to work on and improve, but I like how they responded tonight.”

Seth Villanpando drove in three runs for Timberlake (4-8), which opens Intermountain League play on April 16 against visiting Kellogg.

“We hit the ball really well today,” Timberlake coach Matt George said. “The boys are starting to find their swings and every part of the lineup is starting to produce runs. That is the awesome thing about this team. Every time we focus on a part of the game, they work their tails off and it shows up in games. Their hard work is going to pay off when it counts.”
