Delaine Janis Preston, 87

Delaine Janis Preston, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away April 2, 2016.

She, along with her twin brother Dean, was born to Alex and Erna Ruff on Nov. 19, 1928, in Otter Creek, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Payette, Idaho, until her family moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where she graduated from high school in 1946. She met the love of her life, Donald Preston, her freshman year in Payette, Idaho. They were married in New Plymouth, Idaho, on March 21, 1947. Their marriage was later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where they raised their four children. They moved to Walla Walla, Wash., in 1964 where she worked for the Walla Walla School District as a secretary to the counselors at Garrison Junior High School. After retirement, they moved to Post Falls to be closer to her father.

She was a member of the 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Post Falls. She loved knitting, sewing and planting flowers. She loved to travel to visit her children and grandchildren, but most of all, she loved her husband to take her for drives in the countryside.

Delaine is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Delores Totten and her grandson, Brian Lowe. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years; her twin brother, Dean Ruff; younger brother Larry Ruff; her four children, Karen (Gary) Lowe, Richard (TeriLyn) Preston, Ronald Preston and Janise (Alan) Haidle; five grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1824 E. 16th Ave., Post Falls. Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7315 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene.
