POST FALLS — Post Falls defeated Lakeland 11-6 and Timberlake 22-6 on Friday as part of three games involving four teams Friday at Post Falls High.
In the final game, Sandpoint defeated Timberlake 12-1.
In the first game, after the Hawks posted a four-spot in the top of the second inning, the Trojans came roaring back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good at 6-4, before winning the nonleague battle.
“We kind of had a defensive breakdown in that second inning,” Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. “We had two errors and two walks in the second inning. I was really proud of how we fought back. It showed a little pride in what we’re doing, to regain the lead after a rough inning. Our pitchers threw the ball really well.”
In earning the win, Jake Pfennigs struck out five with four walks and allowed no earned runs and one hit. He also had a strong day at the plate, collecting two hits, including his first home run of the season.
In the second game, Wyatt Setian went 5 for 6 with seven RBIs and scored four runs for the Trojans, who scored 12 runs in the second inning. Chaz Bailey went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Cam Smith went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs for the Tigers (4-4).
In the third game, left-hander Talon Dewey pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts, and Sandpoint scored all 12 runs in the last three innings to defeat Timberlake.
Today at Post Falls High, it’s Lakeland (2-3) vs. Timberlake (4-4) at 10 a.m., followed by Lakeland (7-2) vs. Post Falls at 12:30 p.m. and Sandpoint (5-5) vs. Post Falls at 3.
