Muddy Miles about to get muddier

| April 1, 2016 9:00 PM

Since 2011, Muddy Miles has called the Kootenai County Fairgrounds home, but this year, the midsummer race benefiting Heritage Health will have a new home. Thanks to the support of Copper Basin Construction, a 30-acre field in the Tullamore development near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Highway 41 will be the new home for Muddy Miles.

“The fairgrounds have been a great partner for us, but as we continue to grow the event we just needed to find a location that could give us more room and freedom to push the boundaries of how much mud we can create for our racers,” said William Eisenbrandt, who was the race chairman in 2015.

Muddy Miles started as a small, 2-mile run with mud pits and water obstacles for its 240 racers. In five years it has grown to nearly 1,100 racers with local businesses contributing to the mud and obstacles for the course. Muddy Miles proudly boasts it is the only family-friendly mud run in the area with heats devoted to kids ages 3 and up.

Proceeds from the race support the Kroc Rx program and the Maryellen Fund at Heritage Health. Kroc Rx is an innovative program combining patient care with a physician and physical fitness at the gym. The Maryellen Fund provides scholarships to patients on a need basis to cover medical care at Heritage Health.

This year’s race will be at 10 a.m., July 16.
