Seeking the Panhandle’s paranormal

As Halloween approaches, many people begin to think about “ghoulies, ghosties, long-leggedy beasties and things that go bump in the night,” to quote the old Scottish prayer.

However, for some who walk among the living, paranormal experiences happen all the time. They might hear disembodied voices when they are positive they are alone in the house, see doors slam right before their eyes or even wake up to wide-open cupboards and curious stacks of dishes on kitchen counters that were clear the night before.

North Idaho is no stranger to weird goings-on. In years past, we have found spooks at the Slab Inn and investigated the historic Pleasantview School in Post Falls, caught glimpses of apparitions in the Mullan Athletic Pavilion in the Silver Valley and even heard of a haunted cash register in the Coeur d'Alene Kmart. With such a rich local history, it's no surprise some locations may be phantom favorites.

Poltergeists, residual hauntings, creepy cold spots, disembodied voices, spine-tingling basements and hair-raising attics — whatever you are experiencing or have experienced, we want to hear about it. Now is the time to share your ghost story.

In the spirit of Halloween, we want to know the favorite haunts of North Idaho's specters and how those unseen guests have interacted with the living. We want to hear about your experiences, from the weird to the wild. We want to visit the site of your paranormal encounter and see if we can catch any evidence to share with the world.

Let's go ghost hunting, North Idaho. Contact me, Devin Heilman, at 664-8176, extension 1111, or email dheilman@cdapress.com.
