PREP SOCCER: Lakeland boys hand Lake City first loss
• BOYS
COEUR d’ALENE — Brandon Lycan and Dade McDevitt each scored once as the visiting Lakeland Hawks handed the Lake City Timberwolves their first loss of the season, 2-0 on senior day Saturday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.
It was the second win in three days for 4A Lakeland (8-2-2) over a 5A school; the Hawks beat Coeur d’Alene 2-1 on Thursday.
“They’re playing good soccer right now,” Lake City coach Chad Beadell said of Lakeland. “We couldn’t execute today, and we had a lot of opportunities — point-blank shots going over the goal. All the credit goes to them. We came out uninspired; we have to come out Monday (at practice) and show some passion.”
Max Baker had six saves in the shutout for Lakeland.
“Getting the win over Lake City was huge for us,” Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. “They’ve been having a huge season. Really proud of the boys for what they did. They stepped up and played a great game.”
“They played hard, bottom line,” Beadell said. “They played very hard today, and won everything out of the air. They took advantage of their opportunities, and we didn’t take advantage of ours.”
Lakeland plays host to St. George’s on Monday. Lake City returns to action Saturday at Sandpoint.

LEWISTON — Dawson Mulder scored his team-best seventh goal of the season, and it was an important one, leading the Bulldogs past the Bengals in a nonleague match at Walker Field.
Kyle Hertel and Mitch Rust each stopped two shots to split the shutout in goal, and the Bulldogs (9-2-1) earned a season sweep of the Bengals as Mulder’s goal in the eighth minute held up.
“Ben Schwartz played a nice through ball that got Dawson behind the defense. He put a good shot to the far post. The keeper got his hands on it, but it wasn’t enough,” described Bulldogs head coach Adam Tajan, lauding the defense of Tanner Kohal in the back four. “He was the man of the match, solid defense on the guy who scored twice on us the first time.”

LEWISTON — Paige DuMars had a strong game in goal, but a slow start once again proved costly for the Bulldog girls, who were blanked by the Bengals in a nonleague match at Walker Field.
The Bengals scored less than a minute into the game, a trend that continues to plague the Bulldogs (3-5-2), who were never able to get the equalizer as Lewiston added a insurance goal in the 60th minute.
“That’s about the fifth time that (early goal) has happened this year. It was a pretty underwhelming performance from us. Lewiston is effective on attack, and my defense was not able to cope with that today,” Sandpoint coach Conor Baranski said. “The silver lining was Paige DuMars, who kept us in the game with some big saves. Our attack was OK, we just couldn’t finish.”
Sandpoint is at Lakeland on Wednesday, looking to remain perfect in league play.

MOSCOW — Rickie Colosimo scored two goals to send the Trojans past the Bears in a nonleague match at Moscow Junior High.
“The girls had a little bit of a break from playing and had some time to refresh,” said Post Falls coach Sarah Stevens, whose team hadn’t played since last Saturday. ‘They got off the bus and performed well today.
Hopefully we can move into some league games, minimize the mistakes that we made today. I’m looking forward to seeing what the can do with what they showed today.”
