POCATELLO – A team known to give its fair share of beat downs was on the receiving end of one.
Colson Yankoff rushed for two touchdowns as Coeur d’Alene (4-1) convincingly defeated state rival and second-ranked Highland of Pocatello 27-3 on Friday night at Holt Arena.

Cayden Bonacci caught a touchdown pass from Austin Lee in the third quarter, Alec Seibold had two interceptions, and Griphen Lee recovered a fumble.
The three points the Rams (4-1) scored were the fewest since a 38-3 loss to Capital in 2009.
“We were pretty much totally dominated on both sides of the ball, especially in the second half,” said Highland coach Gino Mariani. “We couldn’t stop them. We couldn’t get the ball in the end zone. We made a lot of mistakes and they beat us physically.”
What slim chances the Rams had at coming back in the second half were nixed by Vikings running back Brian Skinner. He used his agility to scamper 23 yards to put the ball at Highland’s 9 before running it into the end zone on the next play. The score put Coeur d’Alene up 27-3 with 2:32 left in the third quarter.
The past four games between the teams had been decided by no more than a touchdown. The Rams got the best of the Vikings last year by stopping them a yard short of the end zone in a 13-10 win at Coeur d’Alene.
The most telling statistic of the 2015 edition of Rams-Vikings was the minus 25 yards rushing yards Highland had in the game. With its back against the wall, Highland had to throw the ball 50 times, which amounted to 28 completions and 229 yards passing.
The Vikings tallied 107 yards on the ground, while also compiling 151 yards passing.
“I would say it’s probably a little embarrassing,” said Highland defensive end Hunter Eborn, who had a game-clinching field goal block in his team’s 23-22 win over No. 3 Madison last week. “They kind of shoved it down our throat. We didn’t make some of the plays we should have, but I have faith in our team that we’re going to come back better and stronger next week.
Coeur d’Alene and Highland have now met six times in the last four seasons, with both teams winning three. Highland won all three previous meetings in the regular season since 2012; Coeur d’Alene’s two victories came in the postseason, including a come-from-behind victory in the 2013 state championship game.
Coeur d’Alene travels to Hermiston, Ore., next Friday, riding a four-game winning streak.
