PREP SOCCER: Herby's goal lifts Cd'A boys on senior day

COEUR d’ALENE — Cooper Herby scored on an assist from Jason Lukes in the 30th minute as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings beat the Lewiston Bengals 1-0 in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Coeur d’Alene High on Tuesday.

“It was senior day and Cooper’s a senior,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Lake said. “I like how my guys competed with having some guys out with injuries. It was a great effort by our guys to get the result.”

Coeur d’Alene (3-4, 2-2 5A IEL) hosts Lakeland on Thursday.

Lewiston is 1-3 in league play.

PRIEST RIVER — Cody Bentley capped off a hat trick before the end of the first half as the Tigers ran away with an Intermountain League win over the Spartans.

“Tonight the first half of soccer was the best half we have played this year,” Timberlake coach Bert Bentley said. “This was a big game tonight with Priest River definitely being better this year, so we wanted to score right away and we did that.”

Freshman Denton Meijerink scored a goal and recorded two assists for Timberlake (5-4, 4-1 IML).

Tyler Jones scored the lone goal and keeper Adam Irvine came up with 16 saves between the posts for the Spartans (3-3, 1-1 IML).

Timberlake hosts Priest River for a rematch tonight at 5 p.m.

Demi Randall scored in the ninth minute for Lewiston (3-5-2, 1-3).

PRIEST RIVER — Kyla Trumble scored on a penalty kick at the 17-minute mark and Timberlake scored all its goals in the first half on the way to an Intermountain League win at Priest River.

“We stuck to our game plan,” Tigers coach Steve Michaels said. “Playing at a certain level each night is hard to achieve but I thought we kept pushing for it.”

Timberlake improved to 11-0, 6-0 IML on the season.

Lilly Hernandez came up with two saves for the Spartans (2-7, 2-5 IML), who held the Tigers scoreless in the second half.
