NIC SOCCER: Cardinal women start fast, roll past Yakima Valley

| September 20, 2015 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Aliea Son scored two unassisted goals in the first seven minutes, leading the North Idaho Cardinals to a 6-0 win against the Yakima Valley Yaks in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Division match on Saturday at Eisenwinter Field.

"Aliea got us off with a bang hitting her first shot from about 30 yards out above the right side of the penalty area and driving the ball over the keeper's head into the far post," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "Her second goal came on a nifty little combination with Meg Lowery just inside the penalty area even with the left post and she shot it just inside the right post."

Lowery and Katelyn Sly had a goal and assist each for NIC (3-3, 1-1 NWAC), which travels to face Trinity Lutheran next Saturday in Everett, Wash.

"I thought we played very well in the first half keeping the ball in Yakima Valley's end most of the time and creating several goal scoring chances," Hogan said. "Alex Rankin and Lexi Smith snuffed out any counter attacks by Yakima and did a great job organizing our defense."

Yakima Valley is 5-1-1, 1-1.
