Adrienne Diane Diehr, 71

| September 20, 2015 9:00 PM

Adrienne Diane Diehr passed away on Sept. 16, 2015, at North Star Retirement Community in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Adrienne was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Irene (Whiting) Diehr of Barking Essex, England, and father John Russell Diehr of Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her sister, Penelope Jean Higgins and brother-in-law Jerry Higgins from Coeur d'Alene and nephew Kari Burck Higgins of Spokane, Wash.

Adrienne's parents met during World War II in England, and Adrienne was born in Warrington, England, June 3, 1944. Adrienne and her mother were transported to the United States on a U.S. military troop ship during the war.

An avid reader, she always excelled in school. She attended Ohio State University, where she majored in English and history, and graduated in 1965. She attended graduate school at the University of Texas, receiving a master's degree in January 1968.

After receiving her master's degree, Adrienne remained in Austin, Texas, and worked at the University, first at the Cognitive Science Department and later at the Law Library. She was retired with a disability, due to Parkinson's disease.

After battling her illness alone for many years, she moved to assisted living in Coeur d'Alene to be closer to her sister.

Adrienne had a passionate interest in ancient Egyptian history. She maintained an extensive library of books on ancient Egypt and was very knowledgeable on the subject. She made two trips to Egypt, one of which as the tour group guide.

Adrienne was a very sociable person. She loved to dress up, wear lots of jewelry and participate in as many social events as possible. As her Parkinson's disease progressed, she was gradually robbed of her ability to participate in anything.

She was loved by all who knew her, and will be sorely missed. May God grant her the rest she sorely deserves.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her name should be sent to: Hospice of North Idaho 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.

Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Adrienne's online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
