Gladys 'Hope' Douglas, 87

Hope Douglas, 87, of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, passed away Sept. 12, 2015, peacefully at Generations Assisted Living in Rathdrum, Idaho. Hope was born July 16, 1928, in Ellensburg, Wash., to Henry and Florence Ruhl. She had three sisters and five brothers.

Hope was married to James Douglas on Sept. 5, 1947, and raised three lovely children. It was after World War II that she met Jim while attending Kinman Business School in Spokane. Hope finished her degree at Kinman, excelling in accounting and bookkeeping. She was fundamental in assisting in the establishment of the Hayden Lake Irrigation District. After completion and fulfillment of this task, she worked for Hugh McCall of McCall Farm Chemicals which directed her to accounting of 11 different corporations he possessed.

Although busy with work, Hope found time to assist in 4-H projects, Saddle Club in Kootenai County, PTA President, Den Mother for Scouts, School Room Mother, camping with the family, and homemaker in the Hayden Lake and Dalton Gardens area where she performed outstanding gardening.

Hope was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and youngest son, Michael. She is survived by daughter, Diane (Stephen) Morgan of Lake City, Fla.; and son Dann (Melinda) Douglas of Spokane; grandchildren Doug Morgan, Dawn Eakins, Jennifer Erickson, Mindy Johnson, Alyssa Gersdorf, Stacey Taylor, Gina Lilliard and Katie Lohmiller. She also has 20 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Generations Assisted Living for the wonderful care they gave Hope the last two years. They were a blessing in many ways. Thank you, Heather and Staff.
