ACCIDENT: Help is punished instead
On Thursday coming down Fernan I noticed an ATV rolling and called 911. I went to help using shirts to help stop the blood and pumping his chest for air for 10 minutes. When I came back to the accident after trying to find my wife at home, I was told to shut up or I’m about “this close” to going to jail (1/4 inch gap between fingers). I can’t remember the reason that if they die their blood would be on my hands.
I told him I was already covered in this man’s blood — literally. He said he had all the facts. Strange, no one was there at the start.
Not once did I hear, “Let’s get the blood off you; are you in shock?; or we will notify you for any blood-borne illnesses since you are covered in blood.” Just those words, “You’re about to get arrested.”
If this is the kind of people we have working for us, help us all.
