COEUR d'ALENE - Former Lake City High standout Tanner Horton had seven saves as the North Idaho College men's soccer team beat the Treasure Valley Chukars 4-2 in the Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both schools at Eisenwinter Field on Saturday.
NIC (3-2) had first half goals from Alec Maldonado, Matt Howard to take a 2-0 halftime lead. Hamidou Kante and Jorge Carmona had second half goals for NIC to preserve the win.
"We were pretty sloppy along the back line and that could have attributed to the change in momentum in the second half," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "We need someone to step up and take charge in the back. We did some good things finishing at the net when we had chances."
Treasure Valley is 3-3.
