Coeur d'Alene man dies after UTV crash
FERNAN LAKE VILLAGE - A 56-year-old Coeur d'Alene man died after a utility task vehicle crash near Fernan Lake Village on Thursday.
Gregg Larson was partially ejected from the UTV and unconscious when emergency responders arrived, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. He was transported to Kootenai Health before being transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where he died.
KCSO deputies were called to Fernan Lake Road around 4:30 p.m. just east of Fernan Lake Village for a single-vehicle injury crash.
Once on scene, deputies found a red Kawasaki Mule UTV had rolled down the hillside from a residence above Fernan Lake and come to rest on Fernan Lake Road.
Based on evidence at the scene, it appears Larson had been doing landscape work at his residence on Fernan Terrace Drive when he backed his UTV too close to the steep embankment and it went over the edge, rolling several times down the hillside, according to the KCSO.
The UTV came to rest at the bottom of the hill about 63 feet from the area where he was working.
An investigation continues. Results of the autopsy and toxicology will not be available for several weeks.
