HAYDEN - The city of Hayden reported a large sewage spill that occurred on Wednesday while crews were working on a construction project.

On the afternoon of Sept. 9, during system construction activities, a gravity sewer line discharged approximately 370 gallons of raw sewage onto the ground in an excavated area, the city explained in a press release.

The release occurred at the intersection of Orchard Avenue and Reed Road in Hayden.

The contractor has excavated and removed the contaminated soil and has disinfected the area including all subsurface utilities affected by the release. The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has been contacted, is apprised of all findings, and will be given written follow-up information which is customary after incidents like these.
