CDA: Deer aren't the problem

| September 11, 2015 9:00 PM

The Coeur d’Alene area recently has been in the news referencing it to be a great place to vacation. Vacation for us over five years ago that determined where we wanted to retire and that was a place that would be such a place as this. We have thrived and so enjoyed our day trip mini-vacations available to us here. That said, we also have been troubled by the point of view that wildlife here are a nuisance to be dealt with.

Sunday’s paper section C had an article titled Dalton’s deer dilemma that I would say, should have read Deer Dilemma in Dalton Gardens and surrounding area. We live several blocks north of Dalton Gardens and travel happily through it on most errands. We love the slower paced traffic and the offering of wildlife to also view along the way. We are happy to drive slower and be on the watch for deer and do not understand the concept of them being a problem. THEY WERE THERE FIRST!

Choices were made in purchase of property and the deer in place came with those choices. I do not believe I have read an article complaining about wildlife from Canfield Mountain area or similar areas. The deer are not hiding behind the forest when you choose to live among them.

Let’s visit what is really becoming a dilemma in this area and that is angry, rude, speeding and distracted drivers! Speed limits at 25 mph are the solution, obey them.
