Marine Corps League seeks new members

COEUR d'ALENE - The Marine Corps League Pappy Boyington Detachment 966 is beginning a membership recruitment drive and looking for a few good men - or women.

The detachment participates in community parades, veterans events, fundraising for scholarships and the annual Toys for Tots program in Kootenai County.

Regular detachment membership is open to Marines and Navy Corpsmen who served in the Fleet Marine Force. Associate membership is available for those interested in joining who don't qualify for a regular membership.

Marines Corps members meet at the Blue Plate in Hayden every Wednesday for morning chow. For many members it's about the camaraderie and community involvement.

This time of year is ideal to join: New members will be able to participate in two upcoming annual events, the Marine Corps Birthday Ball and Toys for Tots.

The Pappy Boyington Detachment monthly meetings start at 6 p.m. every second Thursday of the month at the Elks Lodge No. 1254, 1170 W. Prairie Ave. The fee for new members is $37 and a copy of Form DD-214 is required. For more information, contact Bill Maroney at (208) 712-3051.
