Richard 'Dick' Lee Bohnet, 79
Richard "Dick" Lee Bohnet was born in Lemon, S.D., April 8, 1936, to Annie Ulrich and Reinhold Bohnet and passed away Aug. 31, 2015, in Post Falls at the beautiful Hospice House.
The youngest of four children, he is the last living Bohnet except for his children Rick, Cassie and Brenda. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and three sisters Claira, Deloris and Lenora.
In 1958, he married Dori Smith from that union came his son, Rick Merkel. Then in 1962 he married Shirley Fowlkes and from that union came his daughters, Cassie Schmidt and Brenda Young.
Dick always lived his life to the fullest, like there was no tomorrow. As an older teenager he became a golden glove boxer who went pro and made quite a name for himself. Articles described him as a ferocious and hard-hitting competitor. He soon left boxing due to family and became a hard rock silver miner in Wallace, Idaho, where he raised his family.
He is survived by his son, Rick Merkel of Butte, Mont., Cassie Schmidt of Sheridan, Mont., and Brenda Young of Hayden, Idaho. Dick has seven grandchildren Travis, Tell, Tig and Merkel, Justin Waltz, Jesse Schmidt, and Nick and Hailey Young. He also has four great-grandchildren James, Jazlyn, Jordan and Kaydence. Along with his special niece and nephews Tom, Butch and Sally, all in Butte; he also has his special partner, Peggy Nelson in Hayden.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be planned at a later date where he will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte. Rest in Peace Dad, we will miss you.
