Volunteers sought for Day of Hope
Hope starts here.
That's the message from Convoy of Hope, an outreach organization set to return to Coeur d'Alene for another Day of Hope on Sept. 12 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
Day of Hope, in its second year in North Idaho, is a collaborative effort to bring hope to a community through free groceries, health screenings, job services, family portraits, haircuts, prayer, activities for children and more.
"Last year we served over 5,000 people and we had to turn many away," said Kathi Abate, one of the lead coordinators. "This year the leadership team has been working to gather resources to serve many more. This is an amazing event."
Volunteers are needed to help serve during the Day of Hope at the fairgrounds.
For those interested in lending a hand, a volunteer rally will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d'Alene.
All instructions and a volunteer T-shirt will be distributed at the rally. There is no need to pre-register.
Volunteer opportunities include welcoming guests, bagging and handing out groceries, fitting and passing out shoes, serving lunch, operating the kid's zone, and a whole lot more.
There is a particular need for volunteer barbers and hairstylists.
Guests who received help at last year's Day of Hope told organizers the event showed them they live in a community that cares about them.
