SAME-SEX: Not a religious issue

| September 4, 2015 9:00 PM

You have published so many letters lately on the subject of same-sex marriage, both pro and con, that I am getting sick and tired of them.

Many, if not most, quote various passages of the Bible (New Testament) to support their position. As if just because it is in the Bible, that makes it gospel.

What most writers of such letters seem to overlook is that this is a legal issue, not a religious one. They may have, and are entitled to, their views on the subject. However, not every reader is of the same religious persuasion. (I am Jewish). I am not interested in what their Bible may say on the subject. It is the legal aspects of the subject that are pertinent, and they are the only ones that should be considered.

Further, even within the Christian community, biblical scholars cannot always agree on the meaning/interpretation of any given passage in the Bible. Throw in just the old testament, and you now have Jewish, as well as Christian scholars unable to agree on many.

How about publishing such letters that only argue the issue based upon legalities, and leave the religious arguments for Sunday (or whatever day one observes as the Sabbath) morning in one’s place of worship.

Can’t we just give it a rest?
