POST FALLS - Travis Swallow scored a pair of first half goals, leading the Lake City Timberwolves past the Post Falls Trojans 3-1 in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both schools on Thursday.

"Both teams played hard," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "We had a few more chances and should have done better with them, but we're still figuring out rotations and with it being the first week and having two games for the first time, we're trying to recover quick and it was good to see our guys to that today."

Robbie Butterfield scored in the 65th minute on an assist from Diego Esquivel for Post Falls (1-2), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

Lake City (3-0) hosts Lewiston on Wednesday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Anika Wilson scored two goals, Caitlin Barber had two assists and the Timberwolves beat the Trojans in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both schools at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

"Scoring five goals in any game is great," said Lake City coach Matt Ruchti, whose team took 20 shots on goal. "We had good productivity on our front line. We left some goals out there, and hope to be more efficient with some more games under us."

Lake City (2-0) hosts University on Tuesday.

Sadie Schmeling scored on a penalty kick in the 58th minute for Post Falls (0-2), which travels to Mt. Spokane on Saturday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Brooklyn Cunningham had two assists in the second half, helping lead the Panthers past the Badgers in an Intermountain League match at Community United Methodist Church Field.

Cecelia McAfee scored in the 43rd minute to open the scoring for Coeur d'Alene Charter (3-0, 3-0 IML), which hosts St. Maries on Tuesday at Community United Methodist Church Field.

"The girls stayed patient and kept working to find the net," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Dave Baxter said. "Mary Nicklay's effort helped spark us today and Cecelia McAfee had a solid performance in the midfield capped by a timely goal."

SPIRIT LAKE - Emily Vanderhoof and Allison Kirby scored unassisted goals to push the Tigers past the Hawks in a nonleague match, Timberlake's first win over its district counterpart in its eight-year program history.

"It's pretty big for us," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "It was nice to see after the match the girls were taking photos with each other, and it was good to see after such a hard fought match. To have a win over big brother, it's always nice."

Keelie Lawler had 10 saves for Timberlake (3-0), which travels to Riverside on Thursday.

Danielle Dowd had eight saves for Lakeland (0-1-1), which opens 4A Inland Empire League play at Sandpoint on Thursday at Centennial Field.

Kellogg (1-1, 1-1) hosts Bonners Ferry on Saturday.
