Opera Cd'A performs 'The Magic Flute'

| September 4, 2015 9:00 PM

Opera Coeur d'Alene will perform Mozart's "The Magic Flute" on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at North Idaho College's Schuler Performing Arts Center, located in Boswell Hall, 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

Written in Germany in 1791, "The Magic Flute" is one of the most popular operas of all time.

The role of Tamino will be sung by two-time Grammy winner Vale Rideout. Anne-Carolyn Bird will perform as Pamina. Ms. Bird's real life husband, Matt Burns, will be Papageno. According to Cleveland's "Plain Dealer" he has a "cavernous voice and droll earthiness." Both Bird and Burns have had many accolades including multiple reviews in the Washington Post and Opera News. Other singers will include Jeremy Milner, Dawn Wolski and Jadd Davis. The famous "singspiel," a partially spoken opera, will be performed in German, with Jay Buhny as speaker.

A regionally-hired orchestra will be under the baton of Spokane Symphony's Maestro Eckart Preu.

Opera Coeur d'Alene is a nonprofit organization led by Aaron St. Clair Nicholson, artistic and general director.
