PREP FOOTBALL: Lake City working on backup plan for Friday
Lake City High thought it was out of the woods, so to speak, when the air quality improved this week.
Last week, Lake City -- along with Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, St. Maries and Kellogg -- moved their season-opening football games to the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, due to fears over poor air quality from area wildfires.
This week, Lake City’s game vs. Greater Spokane League foe Lewis and Clark, scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Albi Stadium in Spokane, is in doubt over the possibility that Spokane School District teachers may go on strike Friday morning.
If they strike, it is unclear whether Spokane School District teams would be allowed to play.
If Lewis and Clark can’t play, Lake City is discussing the possibility of traveling to Eastmont High of Wenatchee, Wash., for a game Friday at 7 p.m.
But it might not be until Friday morning before the Timberwolves find out if they have a game -- and/or where.
“It’s been as odd a two weeks as I can remember,” Lake City athletic director Jim Winger said.
And school hasn’t even started.
Games involving other area football teams appear to be a go, as scheduled.
