What can I expect after plastic surgery?

The decision to have plastic surgery can be a tough yet rewarding one. It is important to do your research and consult with several Board Certified, or Board eligible Plastic Surgeons. Choose someone you feel comfortable with who takes the time to explain the procedure, and the recovery, and who listens to your goals and answers your questions.

Generally speaking, most surgeries have a six week full recovery period. That means six weeks of limited activity and taking it easy, although, most patients are able to return to work with restrictions at around one week post-op. These restrictions include no lifting, pushing or pulling more than 10 pounds; no exercise or sports activities, including treadmill and elliptical; and no bending or straining.

For most procedures, final results are obtained by six months post-op. Swelling and bruising are normal during the first few weeks of recovery. Some procedures require the use of a post-op garment to aid with swelling and improve contour. It's important during this recovery time to drink plenty of water, eat lots of protein and avoid excessive heat and sun exposure.

While plastic surgery may give you the immediate result and instant gratification you're looking for, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle that promotes continued wellness. Plastic surgery can typically be enhanced by maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes a diet rich in whole foods and exercise, a medical grade skin care regimen, and supplemental injectable treatments to stave off the effects of facial aging.
